Soap Box

For any of you wondering how things are going here in Michigan...this song pretty much sums it up. Although we are grateful that Cale is currently employed, he has been doing tons of traveling because 70% of his co-workers were laid off. His company is trying to make up for all the lay offs, which means the remaining 13 employees are spread thin. It is truly hard to explain in words how devastating the situation is here in Detroit. It is all consuming and confusing. There is so much static coming from every side. It is a very complex and difficult situation to understand and I hope our country understands how much we ALL depend on the US Auto Industry (even if you do drive a rusting, crappy Nissan with 215,000 miles and counting). Sorry, didn't mean to get so sappy here, but maybe for those family and friends outside of the Motor City, this song will give a heartfelt perspective. We see the effects of the recession all over, and it effects the lives of people we know personally.

I'm so glad you wrote this. Truly, over here in Yakima, WA, we don't see super effects of the recession right now. I've been a bit on the fence on some of these bailouts. Thanks for giving me another viewpoint.
It always amazes me when I talk to people and they don't realize the effect that the u.s. motorcompanies will have on the entire economy. But growing up in a car family gives you a whole different perspective I guess. Glad you are still employed and praying it stays that way.
You are so right. I am grateful every time we get a pay check. I think people in Michigan are going to have to start moving in with each other just to survive.
I am happy that you are still employed too. The economy is horrible all over and who knows when it will get any better. Thanks for this post. It helps us all keep things in perspective.
