We're Baaa-aaaak!

Pin It Two months have flown by since I posted last. Luckily we have made progress since then, but it has been S-L-O-W progress. Long story short:

1) We are now the proud owners of dirt. Lovely, expensive, red dirt. We just closed last week, but it has taken us this long to narrow down our preferred location.

2) It took us this long to find builders we are happy with. They are great, only take a management fee. The rest is the cost of materials and individual contractor's labor fees. They haven't built in Laramie yet, so there were some hoops to jump through.

3) It took us this long to decide on a house plan. This was the hardest part for me because our lot is narrow. Plus it is hard to visualize a house plan without walking through! Go here if you want to check out our house plan. ***Warning: If interested, read on. If not, skip to #4. ***

Here are the changes being made to the plan: 1) Living Room, Kitchen nook, and garage extended 6 feet. This will make room for a 6x12 foot pantry off the kitchen nook and behind the garage. 2) Bedroom #2 extended two feet forward. 3) Master Suite and Bath extended 4 feet to make room for a toilet closet in master bath. 4) Turning the dining room into a den by walling it off and putting in french doors off the entry. 5) Taking out the wall in the kitchen to make it more open. 6) Turning the stairs to make it not such a long shot. 7) Living room and kitchen have vaulted ceilings, other rooms are 10-feet tall 8) After all of these changes, our home went from 1645 to just over 2000 square feet not including the unfinished basement. 8) Hopefully this will give the little monkeys space to run wild!

4) Laramie is ridiculous when it comes to renting (and purchasing, but that's a different discussion)! We only needed a 6-month lease, but this was virtually impossible to find because we live in a college town. Plus, it is very expensive. We are now living in an apartment until our home is built.

5) I know what you're thinking..."How could a small town in Wyoming be so expensive?" Just trust me. It is. It took us this long to accept it. Laramie thinks very highly of itself.

6) Cale's job is going very well and this is the silver lining in all of these adjustments.

7) We are incredibly indebted to Dad and Mom Perriton for helping us during this transition. Cale stayed with them since May and traveled back and forth until we joined him. They let us live in Cheyenne for seven weeks. We couldn't have done any of this without their support.

8) Needless to say, we are ready to move on with life!

Sorry, this wasn't really long story short. More like long story quite long.

Looks like a great house. I LOVE looking at floor plans, so your post made my day. Looks like there are lots of big closets. I bet this will be a very liveable house for your family. How exciting!

It amazes us as well how expensive small college towns can be! We are experiencing the same thing in Pullman .. strange. Maybe it's the college that drives everything up. Glad things are moving right along!
